    The Issues

    Shopify’s 100 variant limit: Shopify has a limit of only 100 variants per product and according to Shopify’s documentation, “Each product can have up to 3 options. The options can be different from product to product. For example, one product can use size, color, and style, and another product can use weight, finish, and material.” Each combination of those is considered a variant, so those variants can add up fast.

    Maven was adding more base models with more variants for each model and was running into issues with the flexibility of their application in addition to the issues with Shopify’s variant limits.

    Mobile Visitors User Experience: They were also gaining traction on mobile and needed to make their customizer app mobile-friendly. Users were not able to completely build their custom product while seeing all available options.

    Manual Order Submission: Manually drafting and submitting orders to their assembly team caused costly mistakes and took many hours to do.

    Separate Analytics Data: They had multiple analytics accounts to track conversions for each server, but that didn’t accurately show the entire user’s experience as they went from one website to another. This caused them to have to spend extra time analyzing the data.

    Our Solutions

    Shopify’s 100 variant limit: We redesigned and rebuilt their customizable binocular and spotting scope app to be more flexible and allow more than 100 variants per base model. This allowed Maven to add on Spotting Scopes as a custom offering and an accessories attachment module, both of which has resulted in increased revenue.

    Mobile Visitors User Experience: Now, users can design their own binoculars and spotting scopes on any desktop or mobile device.

    We elevated their brand by making the app a separate site and their customers regularly comment on how it feels like a truly customized experience that way.

    Manual Order Submission: We saved them hours each week in sending orders to vendors and reduced the number of costly mistakes by adding in a pdf export feature that contains a picture of what the final customized product should look like.

    Separate Analytics Data: We restructured their Google Analytics setup to allow them to view a customer at any conversion point across 3 servers. Their data is now more accurate and easier to find, which has enabled them to make better business and marketing decisions.
